How To Talk To Men About Health Cleanses

how to talk to men about nutrition cleansing

Clean your body like you clean your car

My friend Arne is a car guy. Not only does he own the A-team mobile (and on occasion dresses up like Mr.T) but he also has the guinness book of world records for the fastest hearse. Yes, that is actually a thing. When I talk about cleansing to my male clients I often equate our body to auto mechanics.

You maintain the health of your car by giving it the right fuel, regular oil changes and annual maintenance check ups where tires are rotated and fluids are replaced.

Your body needs the same care.

Every spring we feel the impulse to clean out our cars, we open the windows and air out our homes.

Your body needs the same care.

In a culture where we are bombarded by the next best weight loss pill, energy drink or hair growth supplement I encourage you to consider that it may be healthier to give something up rather than taking another supplement.

There are many ways to cleanse.

1. Give up coffee, sugar, sodas, and/or highly processed foods like deli meat.

Try for a week to only eat fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts and seeds. Drink half your body weight in water flavored with cucumbers, lemons, limes, oranges, berries, and/or fresh ginger root.

2. Try a 3,5, or 7 -day juice fast.

When juicing, you limit the active digestive process which allows your digestive system time to focus on repairing inflammation. Juicing is a great way to provide healing nutrition while allowing the body time to repair imbalance and restore health. Consult with your health care provider on if a juice fast is right for you. 3. Support your body’s pathways of elimination.

Our liver filters all waste and toxins out of our blood and sends them out of the body via the kidneys and colon.  Support good colon health with a minimum of 35 grams of dietary fiber daily, 20 minutes of daily exercise, and plenty of water. Kidneys are flushed with water and high water content foods like cherries, watermelon, jicama, celery, cucumbers, and citrus. Bitter foods help thin out bile in the liver allowing the liver to cleanse itself. Bitter foods consist of fennel, radicchio, endive, arugula, lemon, and dandelion greens.
