Access your full healing potential

I had a life altering experience while receiving craniosacral therapy a few years back. In a split second I went from laying relaxed on a massage table to feeling an electric current arch my body off the table so I was balanced on the top of my head and the heels of my feet. My voice was making an undulating sound faster than was humanly possible. Then I felt as if I was one of those toy tops that you wrapped a string around and pulled quickly to cause the top to spin in place. One sensation fed simultaneously into the next and suddenly I was outside of myself watching as my body tumbled through the eye of a tornado. I was awestruck by the power of the tornado for I could sense it stretched to infinity and its source was limitless.  As I watched my tiny spec of a body tumble through space I heard my mind barking out commands, “What the hell is going on?, You have to explain this!, Don’t let it stop, this is amazing!, etc, etc….

It was comical really, to watch how my analytical mind thought it had any control in this situation. I realized how small and limited my thoughts and mind are in the presence of this awesome power. It was then that I heard the question, “If this energy exists inside of you, how can you ever be sick?”.

The simple answer is you cannot. You cannot be sick if you accept that you have an awe inspiring energetic power within yourself. What you need to do is learn to access it.

How do you access this power?

I have spent the last few years reading and taking workshops in anything I thought would bring me back into connection with that experience. I have caught glimpses of that healing energy when I engage in a dedicated consistent practice of meditation that includes a breathing technique. If you are like me and cringe anytime you think of breathing techniques it is because we store ALOT of suppressed emotions in our body and our natural tendency is to resist. Resist change, resist stirring things up, resist discomfort. We fear needing to revisit that which had caused us pain in the past yet the magic I have experienced when doing a breathing technique is the expansiveness that I feel. It is not a need to go back yet an opening to a new path, more space and energy that was not previously available. Imagine discomfort as not something to shrink away from but an inner calling that your limited beliefs no longer serve you and its time to expand, unfurl, and stretch out into the next version of yourself.

Techniques that help me open myself to my healing potential include kundalini yoga, Qigong, and Chi Nei Tsang.

Experience craniosacral therapy yourself by scheduling an appointment here. Contact your local yoga studios for a kundalini yoga class. If you have never experienced Qigong before I would recommend taking a 3 day qigong course with Supreme Science Qigong, you can also order their DVDs and follow along at home, or find a local instructor on their website. Spring Forest Qigong offers downloadable guided meditations as well as workshops and retreats. If you are in the Chicagoland area you can learn various forms of meditation at the Center in Edgewater with Michael Frontier and Terry Opalek. A favorite book of mine is “Healing from Within with Chi Nei Tsang” by Gilles Marin.

There is no right practice for everyone so start with one that resonates with you and go from there.

Share with me what has worked for you? I’d love to hear from you!
